Introduction to Lean

Sponsored by SMUD

David Jones of Total Excellence in Manufacturing will discuss Lean concepts that focus on reducing or eliminating waste by using techniques that allow businesses to produce more with existing resources and eliminating non-value added activities. Attendees will learn how to focus their valuable resources on improving three key metrics:  quality, delivery, and cost, placing their businesses in stronger positions to compete in today’s global marketplace. Participants will learn how to improve communication, procedures, and layouts to increase productivity. They will also learn the principals of Lean Manufacturing and how to apply them. In addition, they will see firsthand how to improve quality, reduce cycle time, improve delivery performance, and reduce work in progress (WIP) up to 90%.

Lean Visual Control and Five-S

Sponsored by SMUD

Visual Controls and the Five-S program are the foundation of any Lean Enterprise, and both are part of a standard process to reduce or eliminate waste. At this workshop, attendees will learn the benefits of operating with a sustainable Visual Control process that uses the Lean tool known as Five-S:  sort, set in order, shine, standardize, and sustain. Using an interactive simulation, Total Excellence in Manufacturing’s David Jones will explain how to identify non-value-added activities and how to use Visual Controls to improve performance in a sustainable manner.
